New to P.S. 96Q is the Chess Club! Chess is one of the oldest and most popular strategy games throughout the world.
Mission
The mission of the Chess Club will be to provide an enrichment opportunity where students can learn to play chess competitively. A growing body of research is showing that chess improves kids’ thinking and problem solving skills, as well as their math and reading test scores. Research has proven that playing chess regularly has proven to help children.
Goals
1) Students will learn how to play chess and improve their skills
2) Learn basic movements of the pieces and effective gameplay
strategies
3) Learn strategies and tactics
4) Develop gamesmanship
5) Make friends and socialize
